To make or to buy?

To make at home or to buy?

There are a lot of things that we can make ourselves rather than buy premade. There are pros and cons for both but I’ve always been a person of convenience. When it comes to making something myself or buying it already prepared, I would have always rather to buy the pre-made, however I was also always on the lookout for organic, less preservatives and the healthier options. I have always bought premade household items because it is convenient and saves time. We all know how precious our time is but on the other hand, if you can set aside a small amount of time and start preparing things yourself, then you know exactly what is going into your products.

Lately I have been thinking that I should really set aside the time to start making my own foods and even possibly household cleaning products and being creative in the process and then I can also be sure of exactly what is in the foods that I eat and feed to my kids and what chemicals are around my house. My kids are at an age now, where they can start to help cook and prepare foods and this gives them a sense of pride when they eat it as well, as they helped in the process.

So I thought I would start to share my recipes with you to try. If you are a busy mum with hardly any time like me but also looking to give yourself and your family healthy and nutrient dense food, then my recipes will definitely be able to fit into your lifestyle. Today I decided to make veggie patties rather than use the frozen ones that I have on stand by in the freezer and it was really quite easy and not too time consuming, so I thought I would share the recipe. They took about 10 mins to prepare and 5 mins to cook and I have frozen the extras, so will see how they defrost and cook.

Ingredients: -1 can of organic kidney beans -1 handful of cashews -1 grated carrot -2 diced mushrooms -1/2 cup chopped shallots -1 teaspoon paprika -1 teaspoon turmeric -1 egg -coconut flour (to coat)

Method: -drain and rinse kidney beans -put kidney beans and cashews into food processor (I used a NutriBullet and it sort of worked but a food processor would be better -mix kidney bean and cashews with carrot, shallots and mushrooms and use food processor again -remove from food processor and mix egg through the mixture -roll into patties and coat in coconut flour -cook the pattie

I don’t have a food processor but the NutriBullet worked out ok, so you could use a blender or NutriBullet if you don’t have a food processor.

Have fun and enjoy!
