What is health?
When we think about health, we all have our own thoughts and beliefs of what that actually is. If you ask 10 people what health is, you are likely to get 10 different answers. To me, health is being free of illness, having a balance in all things in life and having positive belief systems that serve your higher purpose. I think health is much more than simply having a healthy physical body, as health encompasses your thoughts and feelings as well.
Think about this for a moment: If somebody is eating a perfectly healthy and clean diet, they are in a normal weight range and use a whole range of nutritional supplements and have no physical illness but they suffer anxiety and/or depression and tend to be focused more on the negatives in life, is that person healthy in your opinion? Then think about the opposite: If Someone is eating unhealthy foods everyday and is overweight, has high blood pressure but is extremely happy and loving towards everyone and focuses more on the positives in life, is that person healthy in your opinion? Who do you think is the healthier person? There is no real answer, as we all have our own thoughts and perceptions on what we believe that health is, both of those people probably believe that they are healthy. For me, I think the answer is somewhere in middle of those 2 examples. I think that health is respecting your body enough to feed it clean nutritional foods most of the time but also enjoy the occasional treat or unhealthy meal and also focusing on the positives in life and knowing when to ask others for help if you’re struggling.
Our thoughts and beliefs do have the power to create illness in our bodies, so if you aren’t monitoring your thoughts, be prepared that you may experience physical illness. When you do experience physical illness, be aware of your thoughts at that time and use them to help you heal from the illness. Ask yourself what the illness is teaching you and what you can let go of. These days it is becoming more common that people are aware of how their thoughts impact their health. It is also becoming more accepted that we should be mindful. More and more people are beginning to practice yoga and meditation and make a conscious effort to improve their lives by improving their thoughts. There are numerous books your can read about how your thoughts affect your health and your life.
One of the biggest health concerns in our society these days is stress. We are all guilty of feeling stressed at times and then letting that stress take over us by finding more things to stress about. We go to high pressure jobs, sit in traffic, work towards deadlines, battle with screaming toddlers (in my case), try and work full time and keep a house in order and try to set aside enough time to maintain our personal relationships. Being an adult all gets too much at times and it is easier to allow stress in and go with it.
So stop and have a think. What is health to you? How would you know if you were healthy or unhealthy? How do you measure your health? And what do you do daily to maintain your health?
The key to maintaining good health is to do something to maintain it daily. Every single day. If you think about it, the people who have success in any area in life usually have a daily ritual that got them there. For example, marathon runners practice running every day, they don’t just wake up and run a marathon. They perform a daily act that helps them achieve their goal. For you and your health, a daily practice could be as simple as eating a healthy meal, going for a walk, being outdoors for 5 minutes more, doing 10 minutes of yoga, staying in bed an hour longer, getting up an hour earlier or getting yourself professional help. Everyone is different and everyone is at a different stage in their health journey, so everyone will need to focus on something different to improve their health.
With my clients, I use a combination of naturopathy and theta healing to help alleviate health complaints, as I strongly believe that every individual will need a different health care plan, as we all come with different life experiences, belief systems and all participate in different daily activities. Treatment could be as simple as using some supplements or naturopathic herbs, getting some exercise or rest or changing a few subconscious belief systems that no longer serve you or it could be a bit more complicated but whatever the situation is, I always encourage my clients to think about and act on, just one thing that they can make a commitment to doing everyday that will improve their health.
So I hope I have given you some food for thought when it comes to improving your health. What is one thing that you could change today?
